As the
first Danish-built car ever to compete in a 24-hour race, Aquila
Racing Cars will be a part of this years Britcar 24 hour race at
Silverstone.
A British owned Aquila CR1 powered by the Chevrolet LS7 engine is
going for the honours in this year's Britcar 24-hour race at
Silverstone. This will be the first time a Danish-built car will
take part in a 24hour race. The car will be supported by Tollman
Motorsports, and Aquila Racing Cars will be present during both the
race and practice session if support is needed. Aquila Racing Cars
strongly believe that this Danish-British Cocktail is destined for
great success.
At the Silverstone 24-hour race the yellow Aquila CR1 will be
driven by 4 drivers.
Nigel Mustill, team principal and car
owner, has many years of racing experience, both in Britcar and in
other racing series. Before getting in the Aquila CR1, Nigel was
part of the Britcar series in a V8-star.
Rob Huff, known to many as the WTCC-star
in his Chevrolet Cruze. Britcar is not a totally new thing for Rob,
as he has done some races together with Phil Bennett in the
series.
Phil Bennett, is an ex BTCC driver and
now a part of Britcar, has been described as a valuable asset to
the team with excellent feedback on the car's performance.
Robin Liddell, is not new to long
distance races, as he has taken part of both American Le Mans
Series and the Rolex Grand-Am series.
As part of the preparations for this race, the Aquila CR1 has
recently undergone a wind tunnel test at the MIRA facility. The
results were, happily, very much as expected, with very useful
amounts of downforce being produced on the front and rear of the
car. Dan Suenson, Aquila General Manager, returned to
Denmark pleased with the results of the tests, which clearly
confirmed the clever design of the Aquila CR1.
The car will be fast, but in Britcar the competition is always hard
- especially in the Britcar 24-hour race, where there starting grid
will count 80 race-ready cars. There will be a good mix of cars,
and some of the top marques have a great history
in the series. Besides the Aquila, the race will include Mosler,
Ginnetta, Porche, BMW, Corvette, TVR, Lotus, Ferrari, Aston-Martin
and many others.
Even though the competition is very tough, the combination of great
drivers, a strong car, experienced crew with factory support and a
very positive attitude could very well be the key to success in the
event. All eyes in Denmark are on the yellow CR1, the Danish racing
scene has great confidence in Aquila's abilities and thus the hopes
are high for the team and the car.
