The Danish Special Saloon Car champion Claus Christensen has
finished first in his debut race behind the wheel of his new Aquila
CR1. The Easter weekend had its ups and its downs, as always in
motorsport. But finished up with a two race wins in the new Aquila
CR1 LS7. In the UK Nigel Mustill ran his CR1 LS7 at his home track
Castle Combe and secured a victory on his first outing of the
season.
Nigel took the lead from the start and extended his lead to 12
seconds before a backmarker had left some oil on the track after
engine trouble, which led to a massive triple spin and dropped him
to P4. Then with a big gap, the Yellow CR1 clawed its way back up
the grid to finally regain the lead on the last lap and to victory,
fantastic racing!

In Denmark during a Practise session at Jyllands Ringen a
troublesome wiring connection on the chassis loom from the steering
wheel meant that Claus missed qualifying. However with a quick trip
back to Aquila HQ and some Aquila style quick thinking, the
reigning champion was able to compete in the following two races on
Saturday. Starting at the back of the grid, Claus confirmed
his confidence in the car and described his "attack from the back"
to one of our Aquila mechanics. Taking a different line to the rest
of the pack, Claus climbed from P22 to P6 in just one lap! The
following lap the LS7 powered Danish Angel was in P4, lap 3 saw P3
, lap 4 saw Claus rise to P2 and yes you guessed it, 5 laps in
Claus took the lead! From then on in no one in the field could
catch him and the first CR1 LS7 to compete in the Danish SSC had
made its mark!
During the second race Claus started from the front and the rest
I'm sure you can imagine, is history!
The car had only undergone a shakedown and some small test
sessions in order to be ready for the new season, so to come out
and win its first race was a testament to all those involved in
getting the car ready. Valvoline racing and Aquila Racing Cars have
been working side by side and through the night to achieve this
victory, so to see it all come together so quickly was a fantastic
sight.

In those beautiful Valvoline colours
and in carbon fibre wrap the car certainly looks the part and
belongs at the front of the grid, but inside the OBR/Aquila
collaboration is rather clear and some of the new features on the
car helped the team understand how the car behaves, this allowed
them to adapt to the new vehicle in time for the first race. The
OBR Euro4 interface is very user friendly and easy to download from
the car once it arrives back in the pit, here you can select what
you want to keep an eye on or measure, and then plan your days
testing or racing accordingly.
A fantastic weekend to be an Aquila
CR1 LS7 owner and proud result for us back at Aquila HQ!
